Surgery

It doesn't matter how big or small, surgery is always a big deal. That's why using the best methods and technologies that veterinary science has to offer is our priority. The Family Pet Hospital uses state-of-the-art laser technology in all our surgeries in order to minimize swelling, limit bleeding, and speed up healing exponentially. Our doctors and facilities are capable of handling the simplest lump removal to the more complicated orthopedic procedures.

While we take every precaution to make sure your pet is well enough to undergo anesthesia, you may want to consider some of the optional measures below for your pet's surgery.

IV Fluid Therapy

With surgery, IV fluids are a wonderful extra measure to aid in maintaining a healthy blood-pressure. We find that pets on IV fluids fair better during and wake up faster after their surgery. It makes it easier to administer preoperative medications and reduces the risk of side affects from those anesthetics. And should rare complications arise during the surgical procedure, the IV catheter provides us with quick emergency access to a vein if we should need it.

We require IV fluids for all of our patients over 7 years of age and highly reccomend them for every patient. If you would like to learn more, please contact us with your questions.

Pre-Surgical Bloodwork

Did you know that some conditions such as kidney disease do not manifest themselves in physical symptoms until the disease is in its final stages and much of the irreversible damage has been done?

We take no chances with our patients. While our doctors perform a pre-anesthetic medical examination for all of our patients, there are always conditions which are impossible to see with the naked eye... conditions which always reveal themselves in the blood.

The Family Pet Hospital offers a variety of blood panels to our clients in order to get a better picture of health for their pet--not only to see if the pet is healthy enough for anesthesia but also to screen for diseases and establish a baseline for future tests.

Routine Health Maintenance

Your pet's surgery visit provides the best opportunity to update him or her with all of the needed routine health maintenance procedures, such as:

• Vaccinations
• Microchipping
• Parasite Screening and Preventative (Interceptor, Heartgard, etc.)
• Utah County Licenses
• Nail-Trimming
• Medication Refills
